About Us

At the end of the 19th century when he was furnishing "the Danforth", John Hogan -- who was to occupy the brick building as a saloon -- probably never thought that “one of the nicest resorts west of the Mississippi" (The Enterprise, November 1891) would one day be home to Park County Friends of the Arts (PCFA), a registered public charity supporting the arts since 1974.

After managing the Danforth Gallery for many decades, PCFA has developed a new purpose: launching The Danforth Museum of Art, the first museum of its kind in Park County, Montana. Since we are historically the first organization in Park County to promote the arts, we decided that the  creation of an art museum was the natural thing to do.

Locally known as "The Danforth", our building was given to us by long-time supporters of the arts John and Diane Stillman. With an address on Main Street, in the heart of Livingston's historic district, the Danforth represents the ideal location for the future art museum.

However, before it can serve its new purpose, our beloved building needs to be renovated. Once the Danforth receives its well-deserved facelift, it will be ready to welcome the new Danforth Museum of Art.

We're hoping that a capital campaign will allow us to restore the Danforth to its original grandeur and open the new art museum. If over time our building appears too small for its purpose, we're committed to expand the collection by adding facilities within the historic district.
