Greetings!
The essence of all beautiful art,
all great art, is gratitude.

This has been a busy and great year for the Danforth. It’s the second full, in-person season of the Danforth’s new era as a fine art museum, and we are proud of what we’ve accomplished.
2023 in Review
In service of our mission, to preserve the legacy of Livingston’s arts community and foster engagement between people and art we partnered with other museums, collections and artists.
Our first show of 2022, featuring Sean Chandler (Aaniiih), came to us from the Missoula Art Museum. It set a warm and confident tone for a growing relationship with both the artist and the institution. The exhibit also validated the idea that a museum can be a resource for artists by providing them with a platform for their voice.
We curated our second exhibit, Ledger Art Past and Present, in partnership with the Missoula Art Museum, the MSU-Billings Library Archives, and four artists from Bozeman to Billings to Bismark and beyond. This exhibit blew the socks off many of our visitors. It proved to be proof that the museum still has a role in community and cultural engagement.
Our third exhibit featured Stephen Nobel. His abstract and conceptual art surprised many Livingston and Bozeman art lovers with its subtle, and sometimes not subtle, colors and shapes and sense of play. It showed that Livingston is eager to engage with art intellectually.
2023 Sneak Peek
This year will prove to be equally exciting. Starting in February the Danforth is partnering with the Paul Harris archive in Belgrade to bring his conceptual and dynamic work to town. Beginning in June we will feature a solo show with the inimitable Kevin Red Star. Late summer will feature a traveling group show featuring woodblock prints, photography, and drawings of regional glaciers, The Last Glacier.
Along with the extensive programming we continue to improve our facilities. Our biggest project right now is finishing the art storage room in the upstairs of the building. This room will properly store our growing permanent collection of this area’s beloved artists.
There is so much more going on, but everything we do requires financial resources. Will you support the Danforth Museum of Art with a year-end financial contribution? Every little bit helps.
Thank you for your continued interest and support of our mission.
Sincerely,
Storrs Bishop
